NASA, the U.S. space agency, has released a dramatic video showing how the Perseverance Mars Rover is expected to complete its journey to the Red Planet on Feb. 18, 2021.
The rover launched this past July. The nearly $2.5 billion mission is searching for evidence of ancient life.
The rover will collect samples of rocks and dust in sealed tubes which will be brought back to earth on a future trip in 2031.
One of the most complex maneuvers in Perseverance’s journey will be what scientists call the “seven minutes of terror,” the critical time to complete the landing phase.
This project will also test oxygen production in the Martian atmosphere and explore the possibility of humans one day living on Mars.
