‘Not a UFO’: meteorite reported shooting across North Texas sky - The Dallas Morning News

A meteorite was reported shooting across the North Texas sky Sunday evening, exploding over the area as it hurtled toward the earth.

Texas Storm Chasers posted on Twitter that shortly after 9 p.m. the meteorite was observed in Oklahoma and parts of North Texas.

A “boom” was widely reported, Texas Storm Chasers said.

In a video of the meteorite posted to a Texas Storm Chasers Facebook fan page, a bright spot is seen heading toward the earth, and a loud pop is heard before the light bursts. The video was taken from a Ring doorbell in Carthage, Texas.

In another video featuring the Dallas skyline, the camera zooms out and captures a bright light that can be seen heading north.

KXAS-TV (NBC5)’s David Finfrock said on Twitter that the bright ball of light was not a UFO, but a meteor that appeared to explode over North Texas.
